More than 70 students and their campus advisors gathered at Hobart and William Smith Colleges on September 26-27 for the annual NY6 International Student Summit. Under the theme of “Art as a Voice,” the students shared their experiences as well as their cultures through informal discussion, panel presentations, and hands-on art projects. The program kicked off with a keynote address by Natasha Smoke Santiago, an Akwesasne Mohawk potter and sculptor, who spoke about the way her art connects to her lived experience. HWS President Mark Gearan and HWS Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Chevanne DeVaney also spoke to the students about the ways their presence enhances and strengthens the experience of all members of their campus communities.
The New York Six is deeply grateful to all at HWS who made the program a great success, especially Sherri Martin-Baron, International Student Success Manager, and Maddie Hall ’26, ISS student assistant, for their tireless efforts to coordinate this event.
