Three Upstate-Global Collective Projects Funded in Second Round

Launched in September 2014 with a workshop at Union College drawing over 60 faculty and staff from across the New York Six, the Upstate-Global Collective aims to create scholarly communities across the Consortium made up of faculty and students who are passionate about exploring themes that not only have rich historical roots here in upstate New York, but are also of current consequence worldwide.  The project funds research fellowships for students, supports faculty development activities on themes related to human rights and sustainability, and encourages faculty to conduct international study trips to explore these themes worldwide.  

Five projects were supported in the first round (2015-2016).  In fall 2015, proposals were solicited for the second round of funding, to support projects offered in 2016-2017.  Three projects were funded for the second round, involving 28 faculty across all six member schools:

1. "Care and Support in Aging Communities, with a focus on end of life care" (DiCicco-Bloom/Hamilton, Weisse/Union, Anderson-Hanley/Union, Loe/Colgate, Gentry/Hamilton, Bodenlos/Hobart and William Smith, Moore/Skidmore, Rohlfsen/St. Lawrence, and Cotter/Union)

2. "Marginalized Communities and Urban Centers" (Trivedi/Hamilton, Yadav/Hobart and William Smith, Collins/St. Lawrence, Jayman/St. Lawrence, Moatasim/Hamilton, Murshid/Colgate, Perera-Rajasingham/Colgate, and Schonberg/St. Lawrence)

3. "Refugees on the Move: The Global Refugee Crisis and Local Refugee Lives" (Balkan/Hamilton, Cidam/Union, Khan/Colgate, LaDousa/Hamilton, Kosta/Hobart and William Smith, Lobe/Union, Spadola/Colgate, Hagstrom/Hamilton, and Eissenstat/St. Lawrence)

Audience:
