DEADLINE EXTENDED Student Summer Fellowships - Call for Proposals!

The New York Six is seeking proposals from faculty members for student research fellows positions for summer 2018. The NY6 Upstate Summer Research Fellows Program will bring students and faculty together around important scholarly topics relevant to the upstate New York region. This Upstate Summer Research Fellows Program will fund one fellow per institution to conduct research, ideally at another New York Six institution.

This inter-institutional research program aims to do the following:
• Provide new opportunities for student intellectual growth,
• Promote student-faculty collaboration across the Consortium, and
• Encourage interdisciplinary inquiry that connects local interests with global issues.

Student fellowships will last 6-8 weeks with the expectation that the student will work full-time on a research project at a host institution. Students awarded a fellowship will receive a $450 weekly stipend for the duration of the fellowship. Faculty mentors facilitating the research project at the host institution will receive a $1000 stipend.

The NY6 welcomes fellowship proposals from faculty members from all institutions and disciplines who are conducting research on topics related to upstate New York. Faculty members receiving awards are expected to mentor an Upstate Summer Research Fellow, ideally from another New York Six institution, for summer 2018. Students will be invited apply for a fellowship through their school’s undergraduate research office. Upstate Summer Research Fellows will be selected by the faculty mentor in consultation with the NY6 leadership team.

Interested faculty are invited to submit proposals to NY6 Project Manager Deanna McCay, at, by Monday, February 19, 2018. NOTE NEW DEADLINE!

The proposal should be no longer than two pages and include the following:
1) Name of faculty applicant along with university and department affiliation
2) Title of research project
3) Description of proposed research for the Upstate Summer Research Fellow
4) Responsibilities of the fellow
5) Desired qualifications of the fellow
6) Is IRB approval needed?
7) Proposed start and end date for the fellow
